What does the Texas House of Representatives do?

How does it affect me?

The House of Representatives is one of the two law-making bodies in Texas, the other being the Texas Senate.

The House considers proposed laws and resolutions, proposed constitutional amendments, and appropriation of all funds for the operation of state government.

All bills for raising revenue considered by the legislature must originate in the house of representatives.

Only the House can bring impeachment charges against a statewide officer, but the charges must be tried by the Senate.

The Texas House of Representatives only meets on odd-numbered years, and only for 140 days. Therefore, Senators usually have other careers as well.

Our State Representative also represents other counties including Cass, Marion, Panola, Sabine, and Shelby Counties.

Representatives are elected for 2-year terms, and there are no term limits.
